Happy new year!

I redesigned my blog for the new year.

I'm going to write about my art pieces, cooking, my experience of hospitalization and surgery, and things that I thought about and learned as a Christian in my daily life.

I took a video while I draw a picture with my left hand which is my non-dominant hand. I posted it on YouTube and on my blog for the first time.

Since I got married 37 years ago , every year
I cook Osechi Ryori, a Japanese traditional New Year's preparation consisting of many dishes.

However, I can't do so this year, because of my injury.

My younger son volunteered to cook them instead of me.

I taught him how to cook chikuzenni, a dish with root vegetables and chicken simmered in dashi, soy sauce, and mirin,
and datemaki, a traditional sweet rolled omelet,
also namasu, a carrot and daikon radish salad.

I usually cook kurikinton with mashed sweet potatoes and sweetened chestnuts.

I had bought good quality sweet potatoes in Ibaraki, but I couldn't find sweetened chestnuts at two supermarkets this year.

I gave up making kurikinton.

However, my younger son made sweet potato cakes using these sweet potatoes.

They were so good!
